Campaign Focus

Amanda YBANEZ has 4 key Issues that she is, and continues to focus on and find solutions to when she becomes House Representative:

1. Cost of Living / Affordable Housing:

To address the issue, local production of resources such as farming, agriculture, cattle must be mentioned and implemented. In the meantime, we have to look at a variety of resources in regards to importing goods into Hawaiʻi.

Alongside the local production, affordable housing must be addressed. The definition and the price point of affordable housing continues to scale up -- what would be considered affordable now may not be affordable next year. It is completely dependent on the median-house price of a single family home. There is an instituted formula set in place and because of that, it is obsolete and the people are once again paying the price. This affordable housing scale must be reevaluated. We also must increase the supply of affordable housing options. This can be done around the Transit-Orientated Development, otherwise known as TOD.

2. Safety

I support all funds and programs that support our law enforcement, public safety and community safety.

3. Homelessness

We need to look at — and I will support the funding and expansion of community-based rehabilitation programs and social services such as the Salvation Army ARC.

4. Community Emergency Disaster Response

I support the expansion of community based emergency response programs such as CERENE (An emergency outreach program of Kapiolani Community College) and CERT.

“Amanda wants to promote more affordable, and workforce housing, especially in urban core honolulu…”

“It should be safe for everyone at every single board. This is the community’s board — we deserve a place that’s safe,”

- Amanda Ybanez to Ben Angarone from Honolulu Civil Beat

“…Another problem we're facing is the homeless and [unaffordability]. Things are becoming out of reach of people having housing, being able to support themselves for just the basic needs, such as food, water [and] shelter, that's becoming a problem…”
